Home Pomněnka

An extraordinary place for people with Alzheimer's disease is growing in Nové Město na Moravě. Diaconia ECCB is building a modern home called „Pomněnka“ (forget-me-not) , which will offer safe and comfortable facilities for up to 30 clients. And also extraordinary is the way in which the building is being financed. A substantial part of it will be paid for by donors.

A million for Pomněnka

One of the examples of how the funds for the construction of Pomněnka are being raised is this year's church-wide collection, held on the Pentecost holidays. Since the new facility is being built in close cooperation between Diaconia ECCB and the evangelical congregation in Nové Město na Moravě, the local evangelicals decided to support the successful work with an unusual matching appeal. „For every one Czech crown donated, we will add another one Czech crown of our own, up to the amount of one million Czech crowns,“ said the representatives of the congregation, inviting everyone to participate in the church-wide collection, which will be held on Sunday 28 May 2023 in all churches and prayer rooms of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren.

The funds raised in this way will help with the purchase of home furnishings, specifically nursing home beds, anti-disability mattresses, chairs, tables and chairs, chapel furniture, bathroom equipment and more.

A modern home for the elderly

The care home Pomněnka is due to be completed in February next year. The project is now moving from the rough construction phase to the gradual interior fit-out. Installations are taking shape and a tender for the furnishing of the building is being prepared, so the financial assistance will now be very important.

„Our goal is to raise a total of six million Czech crowns in public fundraising. In February 2023 we already had two million. I therefore believe that we will be able to fulfil our plan and thanks to this we will be able to acquire the equipment for the home in time and we will be able to accept the first clients as soon as possible after the building is completed,“ explains Petr Hladík, the curator of the New Town congregation.

Funding from the collections is a substantial resource. „Small donors and the Community of Donors of the Diaconia ECCB are contributing 21 million CZK to the financing of the construction. As of the beginning of April 2023, these donors have already provided 9.8 million,“ explains Ondřej Ruml, the evangelical pastor of Nové Město.

The care home is intended to be a modern building that meets the standards of the present day. Its green roof will retain water, heat for heating the building will be drawn from the ground, and residual heat will also be used. An enclosed courtyard provides safety for the clients' stay, and the building is also located in a beautiful setting adjacent to an urban recreation area, allowing clients and their family members to walk through the accessible environment. „We want to use the experience of our care home in Myslibořice, where we have been caring for clients with dementia for more than 30 years,“ says Michaela Grmelová, the local director.
