On the 50th Anniversary of the Defeat of the Prague Spring

We live in freedom and democracy. We should appreciate that and reject with civil courage everything that threatens them.

The events of August 21, 1968 cruelly brought to nothing the hopes for a free life in the then Czechoslovakia. Many of us remember the pain and desolation of that time. As people who now live in a free state and who yet had the experience of living under a totalitarian regime, we support all those who today live anywhere on this planet in oppression and who yearn for freedom. Let us pray for them and let us ask the representatives of our state to work actively for them.

We live in freedom and democracy. We should appreciate that and reject with civil courage everything that threatens them.
