Editorial
Dear Friends, Sisters, and Brothers,
This issue of our foreign language ecumenical newsletter comes to you at Easter time. We recall the crucifixion and resurrection of our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. From this event Christendom lives, for two thousand years. It also resonates in the lives of the Evangelical Church, the Diakonie, and the Theological Faculty.
What's new in the ECCB? If you have had time to view the English / German web site at e-cirkev.cz, surely you have noticed that the news there is added as it comes. This is our contribution to improving the lives of our newsletter in electronic form. Longer articles, whose translation is not so fast, we will continue to add four times a year (for Advent, Easter, summer and before thanksgiving).
The Synodal Council of the ECCB issued a paper on the unification of Europe. This document is intended for general church discussion and will be discussed in June at the General Assembly - Synod. In addition, there is an interview with the new human resources Director, Martina Sklenářová, whose agenda includes, in addition to personnel matters of the Church, the management of the departments of education and youth and all associated schools in the Evangelical Academy.
In the contributions from the Diakonie you can read about how the Centre of humanitarian and development aid sponsored a trip to Ethiopia to help people stand on their own two feet and an article about the consolidation of centers in Western Bohemia. Together with the Theological Faculty the Diakonie organized an international seminar entitled "Beyond the Social Services", with a sequel to follow this fall.
Czech society was shaken by student unrest in late February in response to the forthcoming new law on higher education. You will learn about how the students and teachers at the Theological Faculty experienced these stormy days. We also present an interview with Professor Jan Stefan, who currently works at the Evangelical Theological Faculty also as a student pastor.
We wish you a joyous Easter holiday and we hope that the news of the Evangelical Church will delight you.
On behalf of the editorial board,
Daniela Ženatá
