The German ambassador D. Lingemann as a guest of the ECCB

The ambassador of Germany, Detlef Lingemann, and the Attaché for Social Affairs, Stephan Schmid, accepted an invitation to a meeting with the leadership of the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren. They met with moderator Joel Ruml, lay moderator Lia Valková and employees of the ecumenical department on Wednesday, 12th September. The German ambassador has worked in the Czech Republic for one year. Previously he was, inter alia, the ambassador to Azerbaijan and Deputy Head of Mission in Russia.

The guests from the embassy were informed about the numbers of parishes and ministers, as well as about the work of the ECCB in the wider Czech society. The head of the department for ecumenical relationships, Rev. Gerhard Frey-Reininghaus, highlighted the fact that, even though at the last population census only fifty thousand people declared themselves as members of the ECCB, the results of the work of Diaconia, Church schools, military, prison and hospital chaplains, broadcasts of Church services and other programs on radio and television plus the work of many parishes in their communities have a significant and positive impact on the life of the wider society. The ambassador was also informed about the German-speaking parish in Prague, which is part of the ECCB, and uses the Church of Martin-in-the-Wall. For the future a mutual declaration was made, that welcomes further contacts and cooperation, especially with regard to visits of German representative of Church and State to our Republic.
